libation

Completed in June 2009.

A libation is the ritual offering of a liquid (usually alcohol), often as a memorial. Libations are an important part of Arcadian funerals, in which each person in attendance pours coconut wine or water over the body of the deceased. What part of the body each person pours over and which substance they pour is intricately prescribed by his or her relationship to the deceased.

In Solace, bodies of the dead are neither buried nor cremated, but go to compost in the city's greenhouses (assuming they are not chemically messed up in some way). Families cannot legally do anything to a dead body before or after it goes to the morgue.
